My one criticism? There's a point in the book where I find Gregor's lack of immediate emotional response to be a bit improbable, if I'm supposed to believe that he's really just an 11 (or maybe now 12?) year old kid struggling against impossible odds pretty much on his own.

These are excellent adventure-fantasies that deserve a wide readership. If it's as good as the first two books, perhaps sales on this terrific series will actually take off the way they should. There's a hint of a further prophecy to deal with - and a sequel on the market. There are amazing surprises, literal and figurative twists and turns, and another mystical prophecy that proves, in hindsight, 'as clear as water.' I'm quoting Vikus or perhaps Nerissa here. The adventures in this were every bit as good as in the first, with constant page-turning and a resulting inability to go to bed before finding out what happens. I'm talking 8-foot roaches, not just 'big.' New Yorkers reading this may nod and smile knowingly and even believe that this book isn't fantasy, but it is. In this book, Gregor and his sister Boots end up heading to the Underland again when Boots is kidnapped from Central Park by a gigantic cockroach. I guess the length was getting a tad unwieldy, but I liked it when he had a geographical designation as part of his name. I notice that they've dropped 'the Overlander' from the title. I'm not sure how many there'll end up being altogether, but the third Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods is already in stores in hardcover.
